Jorge Silva: the Lazio youngster in the squad for Juventus clash

Jorge Silva is a name that many Lazio fans may not have heard often before. The 19-year-old centre-back, turning 20 in just over a week, has been named in Simone Inzaghi’s squad list for the clash between Lazio and Juventus this evening. With Francesco Acerbi suspended and Luiz Felipe injured, Lazio have just a handful of centre-backs left at their disposal – Stefan Radu, Bastos, Wallace and Silva.

Despite never having played for the Lazio first team before, Silva could be flung in at the deep end if called upon tonight. The thought is that Silva will start on the bench, with Radu, Bastos and Wallace forming a makeshift Lazio defence. However, with the Biancocelesti’s luck with injuries and suspensions, Silva could well be brought on to make his debut in one of his team’s biggest matches of the season.

Jorge Silva signed for Lazio for an undisclosed fee on deadline day of the summer 2017 transfer window, signing from Benfica’s youth team. Since, Silva completed 22 games for Lazio in the Primavera 1 last season, with 11 appearances so far in Primavera 2 this season; scoring once.

Little else is known about the centre-back but it seems Inzaghi is taking no chances and having Jorge Silva on standby, if anything were to happen to a starting defender, is a massive help. However, with there being no bigger match in Italy to make your debut in, Laziale will have to hope that big match nerves do not get to him if he does come on to the field.
