Frosinone vs Lazio was the first of the night’s Serie A action; with Lazio winning the game by one goal to nil.
The first half started slowly yet Lazio dominated the match; pushing Frosinone in the first twenty minutes without scoring. Chances were limited for the hosts, with no more than a half-chance to start the game. Felipe Caicedo and Ciro Immobile began to show good synergy up to, Caicedo in the squad in place of Joaquin Correa, who suffered a minor injury in the Coppa Italia clash with Inter and, although fit, Inzaghi thought Caicedo should get the nod from the start of the game. Controversy hit when, in the 26th minute, the referee judged Bastos to have fouled a Frosinone attacker. However, upon the use of VAR, the penalty was overruled; the referee’s initial decision was wrong. After the penalty, the game grew more open; both sides having opportunities to put themselves in the lead but, in the 35th minute, it was Felipe Caicedo who gave Lazio the lead, after a good piece of build-up play from Luis Alberto. At half-time, the score was 1-0 and Lazio deservedly held the lead at the break.
The second half did not really go to plan for Lazio. Although the Biancocelesti kept a clean sheet and did not concede, Frosinone had a fair amount of chances and Lazio failed to double their lead at any stage – meaning it was a precarious and intense match up until the final whistle. Inzaghi brought on Lucas Leiva, Senad Lulic and Valon Berisha to help shore up the team and to guarantee the three points at the end of the match.
