UEFA Champions League: does Lazio have what it takes?

After falling 1-0 away from home to Spal, Lazio needed to obtain victory against Sassuolo at home. Why was this? Aside from the fact that this match was against a side from the bottom half of the table, fourth-placed Milan had dropped points, drawing against Udinese and losing to Juventus. This meant that by acquiring three points, the Biancocelesti would have been able to draw level with them in the standings at 52 points with a match in hand. However, at full-time, the score was 2-2; Simone Inzaghi’s side were unable to take advantage of the opportunity that was presented to them. A proper performance throughout the match, they created numerous chances but were unable to convert on any of them. In addition, they conceded two goals off of essentially the only two Sassuolo attacking plays, which was really frustrating to see.

Lazio needs to step up if they want to keep their UEFA Champions League aspirations alive; Simone Inzaghi decided to change four players from the last match but the results were not great and the regular starters had to be brought into the match. Below, Vittorio Campanile provides the recap.
