Valon Berisha: Kosovo International Set to Miss Remainder of Season

Ahead of the 2018/19 season, Lazio acquired Valon Berisha from RB Salzburg in Austria for a fee of approximately €7.50m. Captain of the Kosovo international football team, he joined the Biancocelesti after a busy yet successful season in which he played in 45 matches in all competitions; he impressed several top sides from his Europa League display. However, this season, the now 26-year old has managed to pick up just 538 minutes of football, with only 192 minutes coming from Serie A TIM action… The reason for this? Injury, which comes as quite the surprise, considering his ability to remain match fit. Terrible Luck, this has been and is continuing to be, a year to forget for the player, especially with the latest news that has left the Formello.

According to Radiosei, Berisha is set to have surgery on his knee which has been giving him issues; after the customary checks in Paideia, he is said to have flown to Barcelona for further consultation about the injury and the possible alternatives. If this surgery to occur, it would result in the player missing the remainder of the season. With a future yet to be written, Lazio have invested a decent amount of money in the player to date. Although failing to meet the high expectations, the club are said to be willing to give him time, hoping that the midfielder can explode in the second year, similar to what had happened with Spaniard Luis Alberto. A contract until 2023, it would be a huge loss to see the player off-loaded this summer.
