Wallace: the Brazilian defender assisted by his ‘Super Agent’

By now, Laziali can all agree in saying that Wallace Fortuna dos Santos has not been a great defender for Lazio – he is definitely not a player that is capable of playing in the Champions League (or in any matter, playing for a team that is fighting for a top spot in the league). However, what many do not know is that the Brazilian 24-year-old actually played in the top European competition. This was two years before he joined the Eagles when he played with AS Monaco in Ligue 1. With the French club fighting for the title, Wallace made 22 appearances that year, and in the following year (still on loan from Braga in Portugal) he made an additional 34 appearances. A surprise considering the form he has had in Rome, how can this be possible? Was Wallace good in France and shocking in Italy? The answer, is absolutely not: the Brazilian has always been the same player as we are seeing now with Lazio. However, with the help of his quite famous agent, Jorge Mendes – who also represents Cristiano Ronaldo – he has been able to play with high-grade sides, even if realistically, he does not have the required quality. Below, Vittorio Campanile breaks down Wallace’s story.
