Cagliari vs Lazio: Match Preview, Prediction and Probable Line-ups

Cagliari vs Lazio

Cagliari vs Lazio

Although it is not mathematically impossible, Lazio’s Champions League dream looks to be over. The Biancocelesti currently sit in 8th place, two points behind 7th placed Torino, four points behind Roma in 6th and Milan in 5th and seven points off 4th placed Atalanta. Barring a collapse from Atalanta, Milan and Roma, the best that Simone Inzaghi can hope for is a place in next season’s Europa League; which can be achieved one of two ways. Heading into Cagliari vs Lazio, the Biancocelesti must win in order to keep the league route of qualification alive; with the club set to face Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final next week.

Cagliari come into the game with a mixed run of form. Despite victories against Spal and Frosinone, Cagliari have lost their last two games against Napoli and Roma. Cagliari are essentially safe from relegation, eight points above the drop zone and looking forward to another season in Italy’s top flight. At home, Cagliari have won four of their last five games, including impressive wins against Fiorentina and Inter.

Lazio, meanwhile, must win this game and will likely have a nearly full squad available for Simone Inzaghi. Doubts have been raised over the fitness of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and the Serbian, alongside Jordan Lukaku and Valon Berisha, Lazio are at full strength.

Cagliari vs Lazio – Predicted Line-Ups

Cagliari (4-3-1-2): Cragno; Cacciatore, Romagna, Pisacane, Lykogiannis; Padoin, Cigarini, Deiola, Barella; Joao Pedro, Pavoletti

Lazio (3-5-2): Proto; Wallace, Acerbi, Radu, Marusic; Parolo, Badelj, Cataldi, Lulic; Correa, Caicedo

Cagliari vs Lazio – Prediction

It will be a tough game for Inzaghi’s Lazio but it really is do-or-die time for the Biancocelesti. If Lazio cannot pick up the three points in Cagliari then the season will hinge on the Coppa Italia final and whether or not the team can triumph. All emotions aside, I have enough confidence in Inzaghi and the squad’s ability that they should be able to come away with the three points.

Cagliari 1-2 Lazio
