With the 2018/19 season approaching its finale, Lazio sporting director Igli Tare is beginning to search the market and reopen talks with clubs for players to reinforce the Biancocelesti. Some familiar, some new, one of these clubs in which the Albanian has been in contact with is Sporting CP from the Primeira Liga – these discussions have been in regards to Stefan Ristovski.

With reports dating back to January for the 27-year-old in which he looked set for a move to Rome – especially when negotiations for Chelsea’s Davide Zappacosta broke down – a deal for the right wing-back failed to materialize in the past transfer window; the main reason was linked to the details of the transfer with Lazio wanting a loan while Sporting a permanent sale. While all hopes in a transfer seemed to be lost, as reported by Portuguese outlet A Bola today, Ristovski is still of interest to Lazio and Tare.

Le Aquile are said to have enquired once again for the player ahead of the summer transfer window and Sporting seem to have responded: the Portuguese side has given the ‘ok’ for a sale to occur. This decision is said to have come after the player’s most recent outing for the club, in which he picked up his third red card of the season.

@MacedonianFoot: “Stefan Ristovski may have played his last game for Sporting. The Sporting board are not impressed with his discipline this season after receiving 3 straight red cards and think its the right time to sell with Serie A club Lazio interested…”

@MacedonianFooty: “Stefan Ristovski has been taking a lot of heat for his latest red card (3rd this season). He is the undisputed RB starter for Sporting, but now, there is talk that is he dependable; three red cards is too many…”

Ristovski has made 33 appearances for Sporting this season, 23 of which from the Portuguese top flight. A contract until 30.06.2022, it is yet to be decided if Lazio will attempt to get their loan move as hoped for this January, or if the player will have to be purchased outright.
