With a contract expiring on 30.06.2019, a contract renewal seemed on the horizon. However, after months of inaction and rumors, at it stands, Darko Lazovic appears more and more distant from signing an extension with Genoa.

28 years of age, the Serbian has spent the past four years with the Rossoblu; since the 2015/16 season, he has made 110 appearances, scoring five goals and providing eleven assists. Although a low total, his contribution to the side has not been overlooked. Capable of playing anywhere along the left or right flank, this past year was his best performance for the Grifone: he netted three goals while setting up four in 34 appearances in all competitions.

Versatile, as reported in the January transfer window, Lazio were opting to sign the player but after a long debate, the Biancocelesti management opted for a more economical alternative in Ital-Brazilian Romulo. However, now may be the time to secure the footballer’s rights.

As reported by calciomercato.com, Lazovic will decline the opportunity to continue his career with Genoa. This will make him a free signing, something that Claudio Lotito and Igli Tare are extremely fond of. Giving an ‘okay’ to remain in the Serie A, Lazio will have to act quickly if they are to make this signing come to light: Atalanta and Torino are also said to be following the player, waiting for his official farewell from Genoa.
