Since April of 2018, we have reported that Daniele Baselli has been of interest to Lazio. A central midfielder, Simone Inzaghi and Igli Tare are a big fan of the Italian, but the main issue in bringing the now 27-year-old to Rome has always been linked to the transfer fee – Torino and the Biancocelesti have been unable to come to an agreement. As a result, several other midfielders have been brought in to the club; this past summer Le Aquile acquired Milan Badelj and Valon Berisha to assist Marco Parolo, Lucas Leiva, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the center of the park. However, with both Leiva and Parolo not getting any younger, Milinkovic-Savic’s future still on the line, and Badelj and Berisha failing to leave their mark at the club, the Sporting Director has turned his head to the Granata and Baselli once more.
As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio are ready to make an offer as soon as former Fiorentina star and Croatian international, Badelj, departs. With Danilo Cataldi and Alessandro Murgia also ready to shine for their fanboy club, there is no need for his services and has been deemed expendable. However, even if Milan is sold, as Baselli is a starter for Walter Mazzarri, his price-tag is said to be higher than what Claudio Lotito is willing to offer. As stated above, this has always been the main issue in securing his services.
On the contrary, Baselli is said to be ready for the next step in playing European football: as Lazio are into the UEFA Europa League next season, this could be a factor in actually seeing him in the Biancocelesti colours for the 2019/20 campaign.
