Supercoppa Italiana possibly moving to Rome

Last year’s Supercoppa Italiana was much criticised for the decision to host the match in Saudi Arabia, and now the possibility of the game being held in Rome this year is starting to look more likely.

According to Tuttosport, Saudi Arabia has been flooded by several accusations of piracy of sporting events. Broadcaster beIN Sport are pursuing the charges, along with the government of Qatar, but this fact may push Lega Calcio to move the location to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Furthermore, the poor PR related to the decision to host last year’s edition in Jeddah may also impact the decision. If the game is moved to Rome, it will be played on the 17th August, a week before the Championship kicks off. If it remains on Saudi soil, it will be played between the 23rd December and 4th January, during Serie A’s winter break.
