Lazio have been linked with Santos FC defender Gustavo Cipriano in the last couple of transfer windows. The Ital-Brazilian centre-back currently plies his trade in the Brazilian Serie A but is planning on leaving the Brazilian league behind for Italy. This comes as Ciprinao’s agent speaks to Radiosei, revealing his client’s intentions to move to Lazio:
“Cipriano is a central defender born in 2001, he has great potential. He is communal, because he has both a Brazilian and an Italian passport, and it is a player that we tried to bring to Lazio some time ago.
“Unfortunately the operation did not go through because the old president of Santos set the price high, making the negotiations stop. I repeated it to Tare because I know he valued him a lot, I’m sure it could strengthen the Primavera and then retrace the footsteps of Luiz Felipe, he has important potential.
“We are trying to structure a loan transaction, otherwise we would talk about unrealistic figures. We have to make an intelligent operation, dealing with Brazilians is not easy. Moreover, now that there is the Copa America they are all concentrated on the event but the negotiation will start in a short time, we have built the bases and therefore soon we expect an answer, which should be positive. Cipriano is owned by Santos, there are no investment funds, so negotiations should be easier.
“For two years the player wants to come to Lazio, he fell in love. He is the classic Brazilian defender with good feet who knows how to set and good at marking. He has to work tactically but is very Europeanized. He can reach important levels, he wants to improve and for this he has a great desire to come to Lazio: in Italy he can find outlets that he will not have in Brazil. He is convinced that he has finished his cycle at Santos.”
