Former Lazio striker, World Cup winner, and record World Cup goalscorer Miroslav Klose was recently interviewed by Kicker. With Bayern Munich making numerous changes to their youth teams this summer, it was expected that the now 41-year-old – who managed the Bayern Munich U-17 side last season – would obtain promotion. This would be to the U-19 team after Sebastian Hoeness moved up the ladder to manage Bayern Munich II. However, Klose was not keen on this role, which eventually led to the appointment of Martin Demichelis.
“For me, the step to U 19 would have come too early. When I do something, I have to be 100 percent confident to get the best performance and I have a clear plan for my career. There were not two stubborn heads meeting each other. I’m just glad that I can continue to train this team, this solution is the best for all sides.”
Also in the interview, Klose made an attack on today’s youth players.
“I have been in contact with former professionals who are coaches today or at least still in football. They confirm that today’s generation no longer has the right attitude, which was normal for us.”
