In the recent Coppa Italia match between Sampdoria and Crotone, Fabio Quagliarella – last year’s Capocannoniere of the Serie A – had an additional item on the front of his jersey. This was the Serie A celebratory patch which has been assigned to the six players that were recognized by the Lega Calcio in the 2018/19 season.
In addition to Sampdoria’s Quagliarella (Best Attacker), the other five players that will have this patch are Inter’s Samir Handanovic (Best Goalkeeper), Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly (Best Defender), Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic–Savic (Best Midfielder), Roma’s Nicolò Zaniolo (Best Young Player), and Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo (Most Valuable Player). It’s interesting to note that no two players are from the same club.
Therefore, starting from this weekend, all six of the aforementioned players will have this patch on their kits for every league and cup match throughout the 2019/20 campaign. Hopefully, this does not take a toll on the performances of each player; this is something that is being implemented for the first time.
