Lazio head coach Simone Inzaghi spoke to the press yesterday evening ahead of the club’s game against Romanian outfit CFR Cluj in the UEFA Europa League this evening. In his conference, Inzaghi spent a large chunk of time discussing the club’s disappointing collapse at the weekend against SPAL; with the Biancocelesti losing 2-1.

“In my opinion we must always maintain a certain balance. With the boys we analysed the defeat against SPAL. We understood and starting from me first that I am the head of the technical staff, that we have to take responsibility.  We made a mistake in 25 minutes in three games. Three important points thrown away. Before Ferrara I saw last year’s Lazio, the one that won the Italian Cup. We are the only team with Juventus to have won. we need to go back two years. We simply have to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

My wish is to see the desire to react immediately. Yesterday and today we did some good training. We have to keep a clear head and work well as we did. It was a 25 minutes in which we had to do more and defend better. The ranking for what we saw on the pitch had to be different. But we are on the third day since and to ensure that these things do not happen again we will have to work hard.

Surely it is a difficult and tough group. With Celtic and Cluj who were in the Champions League preliminaries. With Rennes who won the Super Cup and are doing very well. With the draws it could have been better. Tomorrow will be a hard, intense game. Cluj is an intense physical team with an excellent technician.

Milinkovic and Correa needed to do more against SPAL? I didn’t expect any reaction. I expected more from everyone in those 25 minutes, from me first and foremost. I am the first manager, then everyone could be made to play differently. We must be good at bringing the episodes from the our past, it is too long a time to say it, notwithstanding that we are talking about Lazio’s 8th place when in the last games we thought of the Italian Cup, then won it.Three years we play in Europe, we have won a splendid Italian Super Cup too.”
