Matchday 8 of the 2019/20 Serie A saw a momentous comeback for Lazio, a seven-goal thriller at the Mapei Stadium, and Cagliari continuing their great start to the season.

La Dea took a three-goal lead in the first half but were pegged back by a determined second half display by the Biancocelesti… Luis Muriel scored twice in the space of five minutes to give the away side the advantage. The Colombian’s first goal came courtesy a sweeping move and his second was from a free-kick that went past the entire home team’s defense. Fellow South American Papu Gomez got in on the act, as he ran on from a pass from Rafael Toloi to strike the ball past a hapless Strakosha in goal. The home side came out firing after the interval, but it took a while for them to be rewarded. Ciro Immobile scored two penalties, the first on the 69th minute and then Joaquin Correa blasted a ball into the roof of the net just 60 seconds later. Immobile was fouled on the first spot-kick and again for the second in stoppage time and the Italian international scored the game tieing goal with just two minutes left to salvage a point.

Napoli 2-0 Verona

Two Arkadiusz Milik goals either side of the half confirmed the win for the Partenopei… The first was from a Fabian Ruiz cross, where the Pole guided the ball in from just three yards out and the second was a header from a Lorenzo Insigne cross. The away side had no answers in Campania.

Juventus 2-1 Bologna

A hard-fought victory for the Bianconeri… Cristiano Ronaldo scored the first with a powerful finish at the near post after taking away the ball from Kjeci near the penalty box. Less than 10 minutes and the Rossoblu were level through a brilliant Danilo goal with a half-volleyed finish. As is often the case, Juve found a way to win, this time through Miralem Pjanic, as the Bosnian as he finished off a move after some comical Bologna defending to confirm all three points for the defending champions.

Sassuolo 3-4 Inter

The Neroverdi paid tribute to their President Giorgio Squinzi in a touching display at the start… The away side took the lead after 75 seconds, as Marcelo Brozovic fed Lautaro Martinez inside the penalty area and the Argentine did the rest with a fantastic curling effort into the far corner. 15 minutes later it was all square as Domenico Berardi also scored an individual effort inside the box into the far corner. Both sides had goals ruled out within five minutes. However, Romelu Lukaku struck twice in the last six minutes of the half, first with a right-footed effort and then from the penalty kick. The Nerazzurri were awarded another spot kick, this one converted by Martinez. The home side scored two consolation goals through Filip Djuricic and Jeremie Boga, but the game tying goal was not forthcoming.

Udinese 1-0 Torino

A deserved win for the home side who dominated most of this match and got the winner late on in the first half with a Stefano Okaka header from close range. The Granata pushed in the second half, but no equalizer arrived.

Sampdoria 0-0 Roma

A drab boring encounter in Claudio Ranieri’s Samp debut is all can be said about this match at the Marassi.

Cagliari 2-0 Spal

The Isolani moved up to fifth with a victory at home… It started with a Radja Naingolan thunderbolt from 25 yards out, as the Belgian collected a clearance from a corner and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the upper right side of the Spal goal. He hit the post in the second half, but the home side did not have to wait long after for a second goal, as Paolo Farago collected a loose ball to power it into the far corner.

The Crociati destroyed the Grifone at home that cost Andreazzoli his job… Juraj Kucka got the scoring going finishing off a well-worked move with a sliding left-footed finish inside the box. Then Andreas Cornelius scored a hat-trick in less than 10 minutes. His first was a header from a free-kick, the second was a powerful left-footed effort from a Gervinho cross and the last was another left-footed strike, this one from just outside the penalty area. It was the theme at the Tardini, as Andrea Pinamonti pulled one back with a turn and strike with his left as well, but there was no comeback for the away side, as Dejan Kulusevski pounced on the away side’s defensive mix-up to score a fifth.

The Salentini twice fought back to earn a point at the San Siro in Stefano Pioli’s first match in charge of the Rossoneri…The home team dominated the first half but had just a bullet strike from Hakan Calhanoglu to show for it at the interval, as the Turk turned and shot into the upper part of the goal. At the hour mark, the Southerners equalized with a Khouma Babacar goal, as he had his penalty saved, but followed up to the rebound. The home side took the lead for a second time, as Calhanoglu made a run on the right side, burst into the penalty area, crossed to Piatek and the Polish poacher guiding the ball home as he fell. Then in stoppage time, a ferocious left-footed striker from Marco Calderoni from 20 yards out gave Gigio Donnarumma no chance and the visitors had a deserved share of the spoils.

Brescia 0-0 Fiorentina

La Leonessa and La Viola canceled each other out, as both created a few decent efforts, but no goals in the Monday night football encounter.
