Ricardo Kishna set for shock return to international football at the 2021 Gold Cup

Ricardo Kishna has had an unfortunate time at Lazio. Despite being initially billed for big things, the forward has not played for the Biancocelesti since the 2016-17 season and has not played a single competitive match since the 17-18 season.

The Dutchman spent a couple of years on loan with Dutch Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag but a string of bad injuries meant that he hardly played during his loan spell.

However, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon of Kishna’s career. Still on the books at Lazio, it looks as though he will leave on a free transfer next summer. This being said, next summer offers a new opportunity for the Dutchman. Through his father, who is Surinamese, Kishna is eligible to play for the Suriname national team. The nation have historically qualified for their first ever Gold Cup, in which they will participate in 2021.

Kishna may choose to make himself eligible for selection, giving himself a fresh chance to participate in an international tournament; perhaps the spark to get his career back on track.
