Sassuolo vs Lazio: Post-Match Review
Lazio left the Mapei Stadium with all three points thanks to a goal from their very own super-sub, Felipe Caicedo. The victory leaves the Biancocelesti in third place in Serie A; they have now won their last five games in the league and their form matches that of Juventus and Inter in the last six games. Before the game, there was a minute’s silence in memory of Dr. Adriana Spazzoli, the late Vice President of Sassuolo Calcio.
Sassuolo vs Lazio: First Half
The first action of the game came after 15 minutes, Luis Alberto forced a top drawer save from Andrea Consigli to keep the scores level. The Spaniard played a good one-two with Joaquin Correa and bent his shot into the far corner; Consigli managed to get a strong left hand to it at full stretch. The deadlock was broken after 34 minutes by the man of the moment. Ciro Immobile squeezed the ball under the Consigli after being played in down the left-hand channel by Correa. The goal against Sassuolo made King Ciro become the first-ever player in Lazio history to score in eight consecutive Serie A matches. 0-1.
However, the goal sprung Sassuolo into life. Two minutes after Immobile scored, Alfred Duncan latched onto a lay-off from outside the box and nearly hit the target from distance, his effort left the Sassuolo crowd with their hands on their heads, replays showed that his shot skimmed the crossbar. In the 43rd minute, Manuel Lazzari played a ball to Correa on the edge of the box, the Argentine acrobatically connected with the ball on the volley, forcing Consigli to make another good save. On the stroke of half-time Sassuolo had a corner. The ball was delivered in from the left and Federico Peluso got a strong head to the ball guiding it towards the bottom corner; Francesco Caputo was on deck to slide in and stab the ball home. 1-1.
Sassuolo vs Lazio: Second Half
In the 66th minute, Ciro Immobile linked up well with Correa, playing the ball back to Correa outside of the Sassuolo box for his partner to strike. The effort from Correa was dragged wide and in all honesty, it looked as if Correa had tired legs. Simone Inzaghi replaced Correa on the 79th minute with Felipe Caicedo; his efforts were rewarded as in the 91st minute, the substitute snatched all three points for the visitors. The Ecuadorian played a neat one-two with Luis Alberto in the box, the Spaniard somehow squeezing the ball between two players to give Caicedo half a chance. Caicedo still had work to do; his spin on the ball enabled him to take two defenders out of the game which gave him enough time to get away the winning shot.
The traveling fans were sent into raptures as his strike hit the back of the net; the Lazio bench emptied to celebrate with the super sub, showing how close this group of players have become over the campaign. 2-1.
Sassuolo vs Lazio: Man of the Match
Luis Alberto takes the Man of the Match award from the game against Sassuolo. The Spaniard was involved in the winning goal, he also created five key passes throughout the game and for me is one of the most in-form players in the top five leagues at the current moment.
