Gonzalo Escalante Arrives in Rome to Sign With Lazio

According to Spanish national daily sport newspaper Marca, Gonzalo Escalante has signed a contract with Lazio.

As the news outlet states, the 26-year-old captain of Eibar landed in Rome yesterday where he put pen to paper on a €1.5 million per season deal until 2024 (in which he will make a figure around €6 million in total).

This figure is far higher than that which was perceived in Spain; despite several attempts to extend the Argentine’s contract in recent months, the Spanish club failed to come to an agreement with the player and have hence recently signed Sebastiano Cristoforo to be his replacement.

This means that Escalante will become an official Biancocelesti player on a free transfer (known as a Bosman transfer) following 30.06.2020 – the day his contract expires with Eibar.

Joining the Azulgranas in January of 2016 from Catania, the midfielder has since made 148 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals and providing 8 assists.
