Lazio Primavera: Biancocelesti Defeat Empoli 3-1

Lazio Primavera faced a trip to Empoli this afternoon, who sat just three points above the Biancocelesti prior to the match. Lazio came away with all three points in a 3-1 win, where two late goals ended up being decisive in their triumph.

Lazio started very strong, with Italian defender Luca Falbo breaking the deadlock with a rocket of a goal just 2 minutes into the match. The left-back struck a great ball into the back of the net to gift the Biancocelesti the dream start. The first half remained a tight affair for the rest of its duration, with Spanish forward Raul Moro nearly scoring Lazio’s second before being denied by the post with just a few minutes left in the first half.

It took Empoli just 12 minutes of the second half to draw level, 18-year-old forward Davide Bertolini levelling the score. Lazio fought hard to try and take the lead again but were held by a tough Empoli side. However, in the 83rd minute, Moro finally hit the back of the net, putting the Biancocelesti 2-1 up with just about ten minutes left on the clock. Things got even better for the visitors when Szymon Czyz played a great ball in for Gian Marco Distefano, who found the back of the net from close range to make it 3-1 in the 85th minute.

Overall, it was a solid performance from Lazio’s Primavera team. The return to the Campionato Primavera 1 has been a mixed bag for the Biancocelesti so far but two wins in-a-row mean the club sit 9th of 16 teams on 23 points, overtaking today’s opposition Empoli on goal difference.
