Italian sports journalist and former coach Giancarlo Padovan has been widely recognised as one of the leading members of his field. When asked about the upcoming European Championships and who should be leading Italy’s line, Padovan spoke to Sky, where he made an interesting comparison between Lazio forward Ciro Immobile and Italian legend Christian Vieri.
“Immobile reminds me a lot of Christian Vieri and this should reassure Italy given his goal-scoring form. Then there is also Belotti, unlike Immobile he has always played good games with the National team. Immobile is stratospheric with Lazio, but less so in the National team.”
Immobile currently has 25 goals in Serie A this season, from just 1832 minutes in total. Therefore, the Italian striker has scored a goal every 73 minutes in the league this season, as well as contributing 6 assists, more than any other player in the top 10 scorers.
