Parma vs Lazio: Prediction

Lazio look to keep up their 17 game unbeaten run in Serie A this weekend. Parma have been performing well this season, currently sitting in 7th place; level on points with 6th placed Cagliari and 8th placed AC Milan. Despite losing two in their last five, Parma are a strong side that will certainly not be underestimated by Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio.

Parma have had no problems scoring goals this season, scoring 31 and conceding 29. The Gialloblu are eager to keep up their run of good form, maintaining a place in the top half of the Serie A table. Parma are unbeaten in their last three home games in the league but it is worth noting they suffered a home loss against Roma in the Round of 16 of Coppa Italia. Last weekend, Parma drew 2-2 with high-flying Cagliari, Andreas Cornelius coming to the rescue with an equaliser in the 90+4′ minute.

Lazio have lost just two games this season. Despite an unlucky 0-0 draw with Hellas Verona during the week, the Biancocelesti are in high-spirits and good form, with suggestions of a possible title challenge being flung around in the media. The club, however, are remaining grounded and realistic, leading defender Francesco Acerbi stating, after the game with Verona, that the UEFA Champions League is the target. Away from home, Lazio have not lost in Serie A since the trip to Inter on the 25th September and will be looking to continue this good form on Sunday. The Biancocelesti will be without Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Stefan Radu, who are set to miss the match with suspension after picking up yellow cards in the match against Hellas Verona.

In all, both sides are strong and have been performing above expectations this season. Parma have been inconsistent in recent weeks, however, and Lazio will look to use their motivation positively to come away with an important three points. At this stage of the season, every win is a step closer to the elusive place in next season’s Champions League whilst at just four points off the top spot, it is not too late to be dreaming of a surprise Scudetto win. This being said, Inzaghi’s side must prioritise taking things just one step at a time and will, hopefully, benefit come May.

Prediction: Parma 1-2 Lazio
