Raúl Moro: Lazio’s Next Youth Superstar?

Raul Moro

Raúl Moro Prescoli, simply known as Raúl Moro, was signed by Lazio from La Liga giants Barcelona on the last day of the 2019 Summer Transfer Window. A rather surprising move, according to Radiosei, Claudio Lotito and Igli Tare acquired the now 17-year-old Spaniard for about €8 million on a three-year contract; this is the maximum contract length for youth players and it is looking likely to be extended once he turns 18.

So what type of player is Raúl Moro? He is an attack-minded winger that has forced the Lazio Primavera (Under 19) side to change their tactics to benefit him and the team as a whole; manager Leonardo Menichini started the season deploying a 3-5-2 formation but has recently changed to a 4-3-3 formation to take advantage of his talent. Although Moro is younger than his teammates, he continues to prove himself on the field; he is a very fast player who is technically gifted as when he has the ball between his feet it is difficult to stop him, especially when given time and space. The impression of the youngster at first was that he was a little bit shy; in a shooting position, he preferred the pass the ball to a teammate rather than attempt to score himself. However, as he has continued to play, his confidence has grown resulting in three goals thus far against Napoli U19 , Empoli U19, and most recently Sampdoria U19.

Due to his performances, Raúl Moro has been called up again to the Spain national team, confirming his talent. But Laziali cannot be too quick to jump the gun about a potential phenomenon. Lazio has had many examples of players who look like the nest Lionel Messi with their Primavera side, but could not perform at the senior level. Keeping a proper head in modern football makes the difference and is one of the most important things; if the Spaniard will behave as a professional than Lazio will find a very impressive talent in their ranks.
