Joining a plethora of clubs from Europe’s top five leagues – including Chelsea, Tottenham, and Inter – Lazio is showing interest in KAA Gent and Canada International forward Jonathan David.
David has lit up the Belgian Pro League this season. He has so far scored 18 goals, tied for most in the league, and he has also gotten eight assists. Furthermore, a goal against Roma in the Europa League has seen a litany of publications report interest from multiple top clubs in David, and Lazio are no different.
According to Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, the Biancocelesti has been scouting David, attending multiple matches in Gent to see the Canadian forward in person. With Lazio likely competing in the Champions League next season, the club will need to add depth in multiple areas of the pitch, with the club’s lackluster showing in the Europa League this season highlighting Lazio’s need for stronger rotation players. David could provide just that, the forward is a smart and adept goalscorer who can play multiple positions in the attacking third.
Transfermarkt currently has his value at €20 million, well within Lazio’s budget. Management at Gent, however, have stated their intention to keep the Canadian next season. That mixed with the multiple top clubs reported to be interested in David could drive his price tag up.
