In an interview with Argentine Television channel TyC Sports, current Boca Juniors striker – and former Lazio, Inter, Fiorentina, and West Ham attacker – Mauro Zarate spoke of his past in regard to Italian football.
“My biggest regret was having left Rome as an idol; the people of Lazio loved me very much. After that mistake, I found my form again in England with West Ham, but I decided to leave because I didn’t like the position in which they made me play on the pitch.”
“After returning to Italy, I earned a starting position at Fiorentina by playing at a good level. However, shortly afterward, my wife Naty got sick and the Manager at that time, Paulo Sousa, didn’t understand me. I got stuck without being able to cope with the situation. I knew that Sousa would be gone in 3 months, but I couldn’t resist. I gave up even if I didn’t want to.”
