Sebástian Coates: “I’m Comfortable at Sporting But…”

According to Lazio fan website La Lazio Siamo Noi, Lazio has once again inquired about the availability of Sporting CP’s Sebástian Coates. A name that has circled for quite some time, the Uruguayan defender spoke to a Portuguese radio station about the possibility of leaving Portugal.

“Lazio? Things change quickly in football; one can never know what will happen in the future. But for now, I am comfortable at Sporting; I have always felt comfortable with my family in Portugal. I’m not going to switch clubs this summer, but you never know, the club may have to sell me.”

“Quarantine? I’m at home. Luckily, I have the necessary equipment to train properly. We are being told to work out to maintain shape, staying in touch via video calls. However, it’s nothing like training on the field with teammates; it’s hard training without the ball and on the pitch with others, as one starts to forget or lose certain things with no standard training sessions or games.”

“In Portugal, the numbers are not as high as in Italy or Spain. They are neighboring countries, but their experience has helped us to quickly close the borders. People have realized that the problem is serious and it is necessary to stay at home.”

According to Portuguese sports newspaper Record, the defender is valued at €20 million. However, the Biancocelesti were said to not want to spend more than €15 million for the 29-year-old. As he has a contract with the Portuguese club until 2023, a transfer looks very unlikely.
