According to Lazio fan radio station Radiosei, Lazio has reportedly contacted super-agent Mino Raiola about the availability of Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli.
Alessio Romagnoli-Milan: The Situation
The Rossoneri are set for yet another revolution ahead of the 2020/21 season. Looking to reduce their salary bill, selling players that are currently making a significant amount is a potential solution; one of the individuals that fall into this list is the central defender, who makes €3.5 million per season. However, despite being one of the highest earners at the club, Alessio is the captain of Milan and has a contract until the summer of 2022. For this reason, if the Rossoneri are to indeed sell the player this summer, it would be quite the sacrifice; he has been a core part to the Italian core Milan has been trying to build over the past few seasons. As the future of their defensive department depends entirely on his decision of remaining or leaving the club, the Rossoneri have already started to look for potential replacements; they have identified Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer, Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara, and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Evan N’Dicka.
Alessio Romagnoli-Lazio: The Situation
It is no surprise that Lazio has been on the market for a left-footed central defender. Stefan Radu has a contract expiring in 2021 and at 34 years of age, his time at Lazio is nearing its end. In recent weeks, Hellas Verona’s Marash Kumbulla has been enquired about; however, Romagnoli is a more experienced profile that would be ready to play in UEFA Champions League. Romagnoli has never hidden his support for the Biancocelesti; even when he scored the decisive penalty against Lazio in the semi-final of the return leg of the Coppa Italia (February 2018), he did not celebrate. At the age of 25, the player is considered to be one of the future stars of the Italian national team (following the Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini era). This is why, along with Francesco Acerbi, he would form a perfect pair in Lazio’s backline. However, the Biancocelesti will have some competition: Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have also shown interest in acquiring the player’s services.
