Sofian Kiyine: Lazio Set to Bring Midfielder to Rome

Following in the footsteps of Luiz Felipe and Thomas Strakosha, Sofian Kiyine could be the latest player to be brought to Lazio from Salernitana.

Acquired by the Biancocelesti from Chievo Verona in the summer of 2019, the Moroccan has spent the past season on loan with Salernitana in the Serie B. His second spell in Salerno (his first time was when he was sent on loan from Chievo for the 2017/18 season), due to his terrific performances, as early as January 2020 the club was willing to bring him to Rome to reinforce their midfield.

Despite this, Kiyine preferred a stay in Salerno to continue growing, and Salernitana also wanted one of their top players to remain with the club until at least the end of the 2019/20 campaign. However, according to Lazio news outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi, the Biancocelesti are set to bring Kiyine to the club for the 2020/21 season. Able to play anywhere across the midfield, the player is very versatile; something that Simone Inzaghi will value deeply.

Kiyine has scored nine goals and provided one assist in 28 appearances this season. He has started 26 of the aforementioned 28 matches and is trusted dearly by manager Gian Piero Ventura; despite being a midfielder, he is the second leading goalscorer for the Granata and is assigned to penalty duty, by which he has a 100% conversion rate (seven goals from the spot from seven total attempts).
