According to Portuguese news outlet A Bola, Sporting CP is requesting at least €15 million for Sebástian Coates to allow the player to leave Lisbon this summer.
A player linked to Lazio for quite some time, as of late, the central defender has been said to be one of the club’s primary goals to reinforce their backline. This is because of Simone Inzaghi’s desire to add not only quality but experience to his lineup, as the Biancocelesti look set to play in the 2020/21 edition of the UEFA Champions League.
As Coates is a Uruguayan international who has played in both the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League, he seems an ideal fit. However, as he is the captain of Sporting CP and has a contract until 2023, he will likely be sold for a higher fee than what A Bola has reported. This is due to the competition that will likely arise; Lazio would likely be out of the race for the 29-year-old, as according to Portuguese sports newspaper Record, the Biancocelesti are said to not want to spend more than €15 million to acquire his services.
As it stands, no concrete offer has arrived from Lazio for the Uruguayan central defender. However, in the coming months, negotiations can possibly occur.
