Former AS Roma forward Francesco Totti is a well-known adversary to Lazio, having played for years as a true arch-nemesis to the club, participating in numerous derbies and contesting many heated affairs. However, Totti gave an Instagram Live interview yesterday, with quotes via CittaCeleste, in which he praised the Biancocelesti and specifically head coach Simone Inzaghi, in addition to sporting director Igli Tare.
“Lazio? They are playing an unbelievable championship, we must congratulate Mister Inzaghi and the team. In this case, I put sportiness first. In their ranks, there are three or four players who can make a difference. Congratulations also to [Igli] Tare, he is an excellent Sporting Director.”
High praise from an old rival underlines just how successful the Biancocelesti have been this season. After missing out on the UEFA Champions League places for a number of years now, not many people expected Lazio to have played such a strong 2019/20 season. Just one point off of league leaders Juventus, there is a cautious optimism amongst many involved with the club that they are not too far away from what would be a historic Scudetto.
