Ciro Immobile: “Training at Formello is Essential”

Lazio forward Ciro Immobile has given an interview to Rai 2 in which he discussed plans for some Italian clubs to resume training, as Italy begins to ease its lockdown restrictions put in place as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. When asked about training in public parks and large open green areas, as opposed to Lazio’s Formello sports center, Immobile said:

“It is essential to return to our environment because being in the sports center where we train guarantees us the security of always being in control and of being able to train in the best possible way.”

Immobile then moved on to discuss the differences between football training and individual sports such as tennis or squash:

“Obviously, ours is a group sport and when you train individually it is difficult and mentally it is very different.”

The forward closed with a comment on the potential for Serie A to resume soon, stating:

When we talk about safely restarting again we are the first to want to do it because being able to go back to do our job, have fun and entertain people is essential to keeping us happy.”

Immobile has often been in the news during this pandemic, participating in several eSports events, including a match against a side of former Italian players, including Francesco Totti, as well as competing in a virtual Formula 1 race against celebrities and current F1 drivers. However, Lazio fans everywhere are desperate to see the side return to the pitch and specifically hope to see the Italian striker keep up his scoring record, perched on top of the Serie A top scorers list before play was suspended.
