According to Radiosei – an Italian radio station that reports on Lazio – Riza Durmisi is set to leave Rome this summer, with a potential return to Real Betis on the cards.
Durmisi joined Lazio in the summer of 2018. While there was a lot of optimism about his arrival, since then, he has failed to truly impress and leave his mark. He has made just 19 total appearances with the Biancocelesti; only 10 of these of 19 appearances were made in Serie A, by which he started just two of the 10 matches.
Unconvinced by his performances, as a result, the club signed Jony in the summer of 2019. This was a clear indication that Durmisi had little to no future with the club. After being left out of the squad for the first half of the season, he joined Ligue 1 side OGC Nice on loan (with an option-to-buy), in the hope to regain his previous form. However, after playing in just five matches with the club, Nice confirmed at the beginning of May 2020 that they would not be exercising their option-to-buy the Danish full-back permanently from Lazio.
Possibly a result of the effects that COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has had on the club, Durmisi will now return to Lazio, where his future very much hangs in the balance. The Serie A side will undoubtedly re-evaluate him this summer and make an informed decision as to whether or not they wish to give him another chance at the club or to cash in on him during the summer market. It may, however, be difficult to sell the defender this summer, as experts predict a greatly limited transfer market due to the financial impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Radiosei reports that a potential option could be a return to his former club, Real Betis, who are looking to sign someone for their left-flank. His name is in contention with Michał Karbownik and Alfonso Pedraza.
