Luis Suárez: Lazio Prepare Offer for Watford Striker

According to Rome-based radio station Radiosei, the Biancocelesti are preparing an offer for Watford’s Luis Javier Suárez Charris, who is currently on loan at second-tier Spanish side Real Zaragoza. This is said to be €15 million + bonuses to convince the club and a five-year deal at a salary of €1.5 million per season to convince the player.

Simply referred to as Luis Suárez, Lazio’s interest in Suárez dates back to April 2020 when Aragonese daily newspaper El Periódico de Aragón reported that the club – in addition to Serie A side Napoli and La Liga sides Atlético Madrid, Real Betis, Getafe CF, and Valencia CF – had set their sights on the 22-year-old striker. This interest is due to the player’s terrific form this season (17 goals and three assists in 29 matches) and his contract expiring on 30.06.2020.

Currently making just €300 thousand per season, the striker is said to be valued between €8 to €10 million. However, as Watford does not want to let their prized asset leave, they have reportedly requested at least €50 million for Suárez; an unrealistic demand (given the club’s current situation) and the havoc that COVID-19 has brought all over the world. While this would end many clubs’ interest (including Lazio’s), Claudio Lotito and Igli Tare are not ready to give up just yet.

Although the Premier League side wants to extend Luis Suárez’s contract, the possibility of relegation to the Championship and the on-going effects of COVID-19 have suspended negotiations between the club and the player’s agency. As Luis Suárez is managed by You First Sport – the same agency that manages Luis Alberto, Jony, and Riza Durmisi – the Biancocelesti may have a possible lead in the chase to sign the player, as they have already dealt with the agency in the past and are on good terms with them.
