In an official statement published by S.S. Lazio on June 1, 2020, the club announced that President Claudio Lotito is set to take legal action against Le Iene, an Italian satirical TV show broadcasted on Italia 1.
This is the result of the show creating a programme which surrounds corruption allegations concerning Lotito; specifically, how Lotito allegedly paid former Biancocelesti striker Mauro Zarate ‘under the table’ through a shell company. Below is the official announcement.
“Having watched the Le Iene programme with my legal team, which has already been maliciously spread on the internet and through newspapers, causing very serious damage to my character and S.S. Lazio S.p.A. (a listed company), I don’t believe in giving this further resonance with my participation.”
“Furthermore, it needs to be noted that the contents of the programme are completely unreliable, and that those responsible will be held accountable by the appropriate civil and criminal courts of law.”
