According to Italian newspaper Il Tempo, Lazio are following FC Augsburg Defender Philipp Max to reinforce their left flank this summer.
Despite having Senad Lulic who will remain at the club until at least 2021, the Biancocelesti have not been impressed by the likes of Jordan Lukaku, Riza Durmisi, and Jony, who were all purchased in the hopes of being the successor for the Bosnian veteran.
As a result, especially in light of the club looking likely to make the 2020/21 edition of the UEFA Champions League, President Claudio Lotito, Manager Simone Inzaghi, and Sporting Director Igli Tare have realized that investing in a player for this position will be one of their main priorities.
Max, who is 26-years-old, was purchased by FC Augsburg in the summer of 2015 from second-tier German side Karlsruher SC. Since then, he has continued to improve and impress, being a consistent starter for the club on the left flank; to date, he has made 151 appearances in all competitions for the Fuggerstädter, scoring 14 goals and providing 29 assists.
While primarily deployed as a left-back, he also has the ability to play as a left midfielder or left-winger, making him the ideal signing in Lazio’s currently used 3-5-2 formation.
With a contract that expires in 2022, Philipp was pursued by the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain (amongst others) last year. There is no doubt about his quality; the only issue would be his price, as he is valued between €15 and €20 million.
