After spending most of his youth career playing for Red Star Belgrade, in the winter of 2016 at the age of 19, the talented midfielder was acquired by the Reds in a €7 million transfer.

Staying for the rest of the 2015/16 season on loan in Serbia, he arrived in England to play for both the club’s youth side and the first team in the 2016/17 season. However, since then, he has been loaned out to acquire first-team playing time; first to Cardiff City for the second half of the 2017/18 season, and secondly to Hertha Berlin for both the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons.

Previously pursued by the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2018 following the World Cup, it is without question that the club is looking to bolster the squad ahead of next season, as a result of the likelihood of UEFA Champions League football for the 2020/21 season. Already experiencing success with the signing of Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Sporting Director Igli Tare may be looking to sign his fellow compatriot to strengthen their midfield.

Although it is unclear as to how strong Lazio’s interest is, given the fact that Tare recently announced in an interview with Sky Sport that he is planning a signing similar to Milinkovic-Savic, Grujić can not be left out of the question.

According to Transfermarkt, Grujic’s current market value is €15 million.
