Rafael Santos Borré: Lazio Interested in River Plate Striker

According to Spanish news outlet Don Balón, Lazio are interested in Club Atlético River Plate and Colombia international striker Rafael Santos Borré Maury.

Currently 24-years-old, the attacker spent his entire youth career playing for Asociación Deportivo Cali. Working his way up the ranks to the first team, he was acquired by La Liga side Atlético Madrid following the 2014/15 season.

Following his signature, he was loaned out to acquire first-team playing time; firstly, a return back to the Colombian side for the 2015/16 season and secondly, Villarreal for the 2016/17 season. However, he failed to impress and convince Los Colchoneros of his talent. As a result, Santos Borré was purchased by River Plate ahead of the 2017/18 season for just €3 million.

Under Manager Marcelo Gallardo in the Argentine Liga Profesional de Fútbol, the Colombian has refound his form, even becoming a starter. So far this 2019/20 season, in 21 appearances in all competitions for River Plate, he has scored 13 goals and provided two assists.

As it stands, the striker has a contract that expires in the summer of 2021. He has stated his desire to return to Europe, and thus, he has no intention of renewing his contract with River Plate. For this reason, the club is basically obliged to sell him this summer to not risk losing him on a free transfer.

In France, there are various Ligue 1 sides interested in him, but for Santos Borré, his priority would be to return to Spain (La Liga) or join a club in Serie A. In addition to Lazio, Atalanta, Sampdoria and Udinese have also enquired about the player.

According to Transfermarkt, Santos Borré’s current market value is €10 million; however, River Plate are requesting at least €15 million.
