In Matchday 34 of the 2019/20 Serie A, Juventus defeated Lazio 2-1 at the Allianz Stadium.
While the Biancocelesti were able to keep a clean sheet for the first half, just three minutes into the second half, a left-footed Cristiano Ronaldo shot from just outside the box hit a flailing Bastos – with his back turned to the ball and his arms out in the air – in the left arm.
While initially deemed a free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box, upon reviewing the decision using VAR, Head Referee Daniele Orsato pointed to the spot – Bastos’ hand was indeed in the 18-yard box.
Ronaldo stepped up and converted his 29th goal of the 2019/20 Serie A season with a perfectly placed right-footed shot out of Thomas Strakosha’s reach and into the bottom right corner of the net.
