According to Italian Sky Sport Football Reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio will meet with Real Madrid on Monday, July 27, 2020, to begin negotiations for Borja Mayoral.
Currently 23 years of age, the Spanish striker has been owned by Los Blancos for his entire career.
Impressing in the youth ranks, he made his debut for the first team in the 2015/16 season at 18 years 06 months 26 days. However, since then, he has made just 31 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions, being loaned out to VfL Wolfsburg in the 2016/17 season and Levante UD for the past two seasons (2018/19, 2019/20) to gain experience and consistent first-team playing time.
With a contract expiring in the summer of 2021 – and an extension looking unlikely – Borja Mayoral’s future at the club is said to be approaching its conclusion. As a result, several interested parties have inquired about him, including Spanish La Liga sides Levante, Getafe CF, and Real Sociedad de Fútbol, in addition to Italian Serie A club Lazio.
While there is no doubt that the Biancocelesti have surprised this season, their lack of depth has proven to be a massive issue, especially since the restart. As they are on the brink of qualification for the 2020/21 edition of the UEFA Champions League, they must reinforce their squad to be able to compete on several fronts; this is why they have contacted Real Madrid to acquire more information about their plans for Borja Mayoral, who is said to be valued at a figure of €10-15 million.
