Rafael Santos Borré: River Plate Set to Keep Lazio Target

According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, there is a growing likelihood that Club Atlético River Plate and Colombia international striker Rafael Santos Borré Maury will not leave this summer, remaining with the Argentine club until at least the Winter Transfer Window.

Currently 24-years-old, the attacker spent his entire youth career playing for Asociación Deportivo Cali. Working his way up the ranks to the first team, he was acquired by La Liga side Atlético Madrid following the 2014/15 season.

Following his signature, he was loaned out to acquire first-team playing time; firstly, a return back to the Colombian side for the 2015/16 season and secondly, Villarreal for the 2016/17 season. However, he failed to impress and convince Los Colchoneros of his talent.

As a result, Santos Borré was purchased by River Plate ahead of the 2017/18 season for just €3 million; since then, under Manager Marcelo Gallardo in the Argentine Liga Profesional de Fútbol, the Colombian has refound his form. He has scored 13 goals and provided two assists in 21 matches thus far in the 2019/20 season.

As reported by Spanish news outlet Don Balón in June 2020Lazio had shown interest in signing Rafael Santos Borré. This was due to the fact that the striker’s contract expires in the summer of 2021 and because he had stated his desire to return to Europe; specifically, Spain or Italy.

Although his departure this summer is still a possibility, as La Lazio Siamo Noi further reports, Gallardo has been talking to him constantly in an attempt to convince him to remain in Argentina until at least January; this seems to have worked as the player appreciates the Manager and he has been promised a starting role until he leaves.

According to Transfermarkt, Santos Borré’s current market value is €10 million; however, River Plate are requesting at least €15 million to let him go.
