David Silva: Lazio Closing in on Spanish Free Agent

According to Italian Football Reporter Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport, Lazio are very close to signing (soon to be former) Manchester City player and former Spain international David Silva who is soon to be a free agent. The Biancocelesti continue to negotiate with the player and his Agent (and brother) Nandez Gimenez, but there are positive signs coming from these discussions, with the confidence that a deal can be finalized sooner rather than later.

On August 4, 2020, The Laziali reported that Lazio had met with Gimenez in Rome (sometime during the final week of July 2020) to discuss the possibility of the midfielder on a free transfer this summer. During this encounter, an offer was made by Lazio; a three-year contract worth €3 million + bonuses per season. President Claudio Lotito, Manager Simone Inzaghi, and Sporting Director Igli Tare continue to hope that this contract, in addition to the opportunity of being able to continue playing in both a top-five league (Serie A) and in the UEFA Champions League, will be enough to convince the Spanish 34-year-old to join the club.

As reported by Spanish news outlet Diario AS at the end of July 2020, the Biancocelesti have been in talks with David Silva since before the 2019/20 Premier League season came to a conclusion. However, the player has also been contacted by UAE Pro League clubs Shabab Al-Ahli and Al-Nasr SC, while a return to La Liga and Valencia or a move to MLS side Inter Miami CF are also possibilities for the central midfielder. Therefore, the player has a big decision to make regarding his future; this is likely to be made in the coming week.
