Divock Origi: Liverpool Striker on Lazio Transfer Shortlist

According to Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool FC striker Divock Origi is on Lazio’s transfer shortlist. This interest in the 25-year-old Belgium international is a result of Felipe Caicedo’s likely departure to Al-Gharafa SC; the Biancocelesti will need to secure a replacement and they are looking for younger, experienced, and established talent to improve the overall quality of the squad.

Origi joined Liverpool from Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille (for ~€12.5 million) in 2014. His last contract extension came in 2019, which extended his deal with the English Premier League side until 30.06.2024.

While Lazio are said to be interested in Origi, it would seem hard to believe that the two clubs would be able to strike a deal for the player, unless Liverpool were to allow him to leave on loan. The English side have the bargaining power on their side; with other targets such as Fenerbahçe’s Vedat Muriqi, Real Madrid’s Borja Mayoral, and S.C. Braga’s Paulinho available at a cheaper price for the Biancocelesti, it seems more likely that they will pursue one of these other options.

In the 2019/20 season, Origi made 42 appearances for Liverpool, scoring six goals and providing four assists in all competitions (Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Community Shield, EFL Cup).
