Sebastiaan Bornauw: Lazio Makes Contact With FC Köln

Sebastiaan Bornauw / FC Köln

According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Lazio have contacted 1. FC Köln regarding Sebastiaan Bornauw. The Biancocelesti are in search of a player to reinforce their backline, and the 21-year-old Belgian central defender – who is considered one of the most promising talents in the Bundesliga – is a target appreciated by Sporting Director Igli Tare.

Bornauw, who spent time with the youth sides of Wydad Casablanca, FCV Dender EH, and RSC Anderlecht before signing a professional contract with Anderlecht, made his senior debut at the age of 19 years 04 months 06 days in 2018.

However, after just one season with the Belgian Jupiler Pro League club, he was acquired by FC Köln for a fee of €6 million (ahead of the 2019/20 campaign); he impressed enough to become – and remain – a starter for the team, making 29 appearances in all competitions last year. In addition, the defender has also played with the Belgium U15, 16, U17, U18, U19, U20, and U21 teams throughout his career thus far.

As it stands, Köln have told Lazio that they have no intention of selling Bornauw. With a contract expiring in 2024, one can understand why he is off the market; a high price-tag has been set for the Belgian. Therefore, if the Biancocelesti are to even have a chance at signing the player, they would have to (at a minimum) meet the German club’s request.
