According to Italian Football Reporter Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport, Lazio are evaluating the possibility of the return of Wesley Hoedt. Currently owned by English Premier League side Southampton – who the Biancocelesti sold him to in 2017 – after publicly regretting his decision to leave the club, he could make a come back on loan with an option to buy. Manager Simone Inzaghi has reportedly approved of this potential signing; however, it is important to note that Lazio rarely gives former players a second chance at the club once they move on.
Since joining the Saints for a fee of €16 million, Hoedt has failed to adapt, impress, and ultimately live up to expectations with the Premier League side. After just one and a half seasons with the club, he was sent out on loan to Spanish La Liga side Celta de Vigo for the second half of the 2018/19 season (10 appearances); he also spent the entire 2019/20 season on loan with Jupiler Pro League side Royal Antwerp where he made 25 appearances in all competitions.
