According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Lazio are pursuing FC Basel 1893 central defender Omar Federico Alderete Fernández, simply referred to as Omar Alderete. Biancocelesti Sporting Director Igli Tare is said to have been following the 23-year-old Paraguayan for the past few weeks; on August 21 (in secret), he flew to Switzerland to start negotiations with the Swiss Super League side.
Signed by Basel from Club Atlético Huracán just one year ago (2019), Alderete is valued at €10 million. While a fair evaluation for a youngster coming off a strong season (and who has three years remaining in his current contract), Lazio’s intention is to secure a deal in the range of €7-8 million; but a loan with an option to buy is also not out of the question. However, as Alderete is a Non-EU member (his country of citizenship is outside of the European Union), the Biancocelesti would first require a foreign player in their current squad to be sold before they can sign the defender; this would come in the likes of Bastos and/or Denis Vavro.
