Southampton centre back Wesley Hoedt will not undergo his medicals with Lazio today, although the club are still confident about signing the 26-year-old, according to a report from Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi earlier today.

The report details how the 26-year-old Dutchman, who is contracted to the Saints until 2022, has been in Rome for a few days now, stuck inside his hotel room. Rumours on social media suggest that the player has tested positive for COVID-19, although there have been no confirmations of this.

Rumours yesterday also suggested that Hoedt would undergo his medicals with the Biancocelesti today, after the cancellation of the tests scheduled for Saturday, but this will not be happening.

Lazio remain silent regarding the situation and the Southampton defender is left waiting. The Roman club are still confident about finalizing the player’s move and are not worried.

Hoedt made 25 appearances across all competitions last season on loan with Belgian side Royal Antwerp. In that time, he helped the side keep six clean sheets.
