Lazio Midfielder Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro: “We Are a Team That Never Gives up”

Lazio midfielder Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro discussed the Biancocelesti’s nail biting 4-3 comeback over Torino yesterday in an interview with Italian broadcaster Lazio Style Channel yesterday.

“I’m very happy. Winning a match like this is beautiful. It is not the first time that Caicedo has scored at the end of the match. We are a team that never gives up and we must continue like this.

“The coach told us that those on the bench can change the match. So, we went in and helped the team by giving our best. We must continue with this spirit. I have already played deep in midfield.”

The 28-year-old Ivorian, who is contracted to the Roman club until 2022, then touched on the importance of winning a game like this and his role in the squad.

“I am here to help the team, I play where the coach asks me. These 3 points were important, I did not expect a game like this.

“This season is difficult because every team is strong and we see that every weekend. Everyone is struggling to win. My role? If the coach puts me in midfield or further forward, I always help the team.”

The former Salernitana and Toulouse player also discussed the win over the Granata in an interview with Italian broadcaster DAZN after the game.

“We had a great game, winning like this is beautiful. We didn’t give up anything and I’m very happy. This means that we are a team. I want to thank my teammates, they help me every day.

“Every player who comes here is helped, everyone is very kind. We celebrated this victory in the locker room.”

Finally, Akpa Akpro spoke about his meeting with Ivory Coast and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

“I met him in the World Cup in Brazil, he helped me a lot because I am a player who never gives up, like him when he played.”

Akpa Akpro has made seven appearances across all competitions so far this season for the Biancocelesti, for a total of 296 minutes. In that time, he scored once, against German side Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Last season in Serie B with Salernitana, the 28-year-old scored two goals and provided four assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.
