Lazio are eagerly awaiting the results of the Covid-19 tests that were taken yesterday, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Il Messaggero.
The report details how the Biancocelesti squad underwent the Covid tests yesterday at Formello, ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg.
With the results due to come out later today, the Roman club would have a few hours to ask for another test in order to avoid any potential false positives, which kept Inter wing back Achraf Hakimi out of the Nerazzurri’s Champions League match against Borussia Monchengladbach last month.
UEFA’s benchmark for a positive test is much lower than the once used by the Italian football federation, and so only traces of the virus are enough to rule a player out from a game.
Italian striker Ciro Immobile’s situation is an example of this, as he was forced to miss the 0-0 draw against Club Brugge but then appeared in Lazio’s 4-3 comeback win over Torino days later.
