Ex-Coach Fabio Cappello: “Having Caicedo Is Important For Lazio”

Former Juventus and Roma coach Fabio Cappello spoke about Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo’s performance against Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg yesterday when speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia.

“Caicedo doesn’t have a footballer’s touch but having him is important. There are players who come in and make the difference.

“He feels part of the team. And when you are part of the team you give everything.”

The Ecuadorian forward joined the Biancocelesti from Spanish side Espanyol in 2017, arriving in a deal worth around €2.5 million.

The 32-year-old Caicedo has gone on to be an important part of the squad, even providing an assist in the 2018/19 Coppa Italia final against Atalanta.

This season, Caicedo has scored three goals across all competitions so far this season, including a key late equaliser against Zenit yesterday in the Champions League and the winner against Torino in the 98th minute last weekend.

Contracted to Lazio until 2022, the 32-year-old Ecuadorian will likely continue to play an important role for coach Simone Inzaghi as reliable backup for star striker Ciro Immobile.

Last season, Caicedo scored nine goals and provided six assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.
