Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi is an important part of the Biancocelesti’s build up play and played a key part against Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg in the Champions League earlier this week, according to a report from Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei earlier today.
The report details how the 32-year-old Italian centre back, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until 2023, played well defensively against the Russian side earlier this week, helping ensure the Roman side took home a point from Russia.
The player made the decisive assist for Ecuadorian striker Felipe Caicedo late in the game, who ensured that the trip to St. Petersburg was not something to regret.
Acerbi also played 12 balls into the opponent’s penalty area and made as many as 165 successful passes throughout the game, a clear sign of the player’s importance to the Biancocelesti’s build-up play.
Acerbi has made nine appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 810 minutes. In that time, he has provided two assists.
