La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Director Says No Accusations Have Been Made Against Lazio

Stefano Barigelli, La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Director, recently commented on the issue regarding the Covid-19 tests administered to Lazio’s players. Speaking to Radiosei, Barigelli shared the Italian publication’s position on the matter.

Lazio’s representatives have not contacted me recently. I know Arturo Diaconale well but not Stefano De Martino. I have always had informal relations with Lazio. But, I have had much more stormy ones with Roma. There have been red-hot encounters with them in recent times.

Barigelli also spoke about the tests themselves, an issue that has dominated the Italian headlines in recent weeks.

We have taken a firm stance on the matter of the tests. Also, we consider that this is a fundamental question because it can undermine the stability of the football system in Italy. We are facing a total lockdown and in order to keep football on its feet, we need transparency. I am not able to say if the Lazio tests have been done correctly. And, I cannot make any accusations. I have only lined up objective facts. Lazio, as far as I know, has not falsified anything.

La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Director also insisted that he will take the same stance with regards to any of the other Italian clubs. He also mentions that he has faced accusations like this before; specifically outlining the time when Roma fans hung a banner from the Curva Sud at the Stadio Olimpico reading ‘Villainous Barigelli’.
